Nekozuki Knits at Fushimi Inari, March 2016

Welcome to Nekozuki Knits! My name is Katie, and I currently live in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada, with my husband and our two cats. I am a mountain girl at heart, with a love for international travel - particularly to Japan!

I have always wanted to be a maker - ever since I was a little girl, I've wanted to own a shop where I could sell my wares to everyone! First, it was jewelry - then, illustration and writing - and finally, I started my business in 2011 with handmade hair and knitwear accessories.

My first foray into online selling was via Etsy, which I first heard about while I was on exchange at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakatashi, Osaka, Japan. I returned to Canada refreshed by my year of studying abroad. I was ecstatic to see my (then) future husband, cat, and family; Etsy was put on the back burner as I settled back into my English-speaking life and the last two demanding years of my English degree.

But something about this opportunity to sell my handmade goods to people worldwide...Well, that had caught my attention. It would be an opportunity larger than I had dreamt as a girl.

Since I began in 2011, with Nekozuki Yarns, my business has evolved to what you see today - knitting and crochet project bags from bright and unique Japanese prints! I work with Japanese prints because the Japanese aesthetic and colour sense caught my attention and hasn't let me go yet - and because these prints are not easy to find everywhere. In 2016, I also began adding project bags made from second-hand obi (kimono belts), to add something to my repertoire which I have never seen anywhere else for knitters or crocheters.

I sincerely hope that you enjoy browsing my shop or using my products. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
